A Hillbilly is a term, often used in a derogative manner, that describes a person living in more rural areas, such as hills and mountains in the United States that are considered to be the origin of where this phrase was created in the first place.
There is a saying that a Hillbilly, or Hill-Bille as some would say, is a free and unfettered citizen who speaks, dresses, and talks as they please, drinks alcohol whenever they can, and fires off their weapon whenever the need seems to arise.
There’s a double-edged stereotype, both in a positive and negative way, as Hillbillies are usually considered self-sufficient and sovereign individuals but also backward and violent, with names such as Wilbur, Trixie, Jim Bob, Lynn, Cooter, and Earl.

Hillbillies are self-dependant and very self-reliant individuals who are used to rather harsh environments and life in general, albeit they can also be quite intrusive, obnoxious, and prone to mischief, and that makes their personalities fairly polarized. Think about where the character was born and where they live now, how does their daily life look like, what kind of plans they might have, what they like and dislike, and create a name worthy of the stereotype that promises as much controversy and conflict as one can imagine.
