Eagle Names Generator & Backstories

“Oh my, that is an eagle! A Great Eagle! I’ve never seen it before but my grandfather told me stories about it, and how it helped them defend their flock of sheep from a pack of wolves! It’s magnificent, look at it! I believe they also named it Violet, for the color of some of its feathers under the wings.”

Eagles, also often referred to as Great Eagles, are large birds who prey from the sky above. It is said they are intelligent, sapient, and can communicate with other species, and several stories speak of their magical nature and deep wisdom.

Being much larger than a normal eagle, their strength is also increased, tenfold, and they are able to lift large creatures high up into the air before dropping them onto the ground below, only to swoop down for a meal as it’s still falling down

In Middle-earth, for example, the largest of them reached a wingspan of more than a hundred and fifty feet, and many stories surround the names of such majestic creatures that own the sky, names like Thorondor, Gwaihir, and Landroval.

Good Eagle Names

While many races simply refer to them as Eagles or Great Eagles, they also use translations of the names, in their own language, although some would argue the original names, whatever they are, should be used at all times.

Whisper

This great eagle seems to lack the ability to produce a sound louder than a human whisper but that doesn’t stop him from flying, hunting, and scouting as easily as any other member of his kind, and he’s recently caught a certain elf’s attention. While it depends on how the encounter between them goes, a new friendship might very well be on the horizon.

Midnight

This magnificent creature has ruled a certain valley sky for almost a decade but now that a certain wyrm has settled in the nearby mountain, her very existence became questionable at best. While the dragon-like creature hasn’t shown its presence yet, she knows it’s time to consider moving away as there’s little chance she could prevail in a one-on-one battle.

Echo

When this great eagle screams, the sound reverberates through the air for miles and miles, and if she’s flying over her favorite valley, surrounded by mountains on all sides, it can bounce several times off of the sides and make for a truly scary call. For those new to the area, hearing it for the first time can truly be a horrifying experience.

Ruby

The way the sun rays reflect off of her wings in a dark red color often reminds the observer of precious gems and the way they bend the light that goes through them. There’s also a rumor that this is not a natural occurrence afterall, and that there might be more happening behind the curtain.

A group of elves ran into this great eagle when he was young and injured, nurtured him back to health, and have been one of his best friends ever since. Although they did spend much time together, he’s still an animal who needs freedom and he comes and goes when and wherever he pleases, often disappearing for days.

Comet

The first time the local gnome community saw something falling from the sky they thought it was a comet, and none suspected it was actually a living being. Curious as they are, they quickly formed a group of seven brave would-be-adventurers who went on towards the last seen place. To say they were a bit surprised when they saw it was a great eagle would be a huge understatement, at best.

  • Argos

These large and dangerous flying creatures are one of the rulers of the sky, apart from a situation where a dragon might live in the same region. Their sharp claws and powerful beaks can tear through armor like it was cloth, and their intelligence and the ability to speak with other creatures make them a potent enemy. Luckily, most aren’t inclined to do evil, although they won’t hang out with just anyone for no reason. Think of where the creature was born, what dangers did they face as time passed by, what kind of a personality they now have, and create a name worthy of the magnificent view that flying high in the sky provides.
